Shavonn Whiten

Portrait of Shavonn WhitenShavonn Whiten is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Entomology advised by Dr. Zachary Adelman. Her doctoral research utilizes genome-editing techniques, protein chemistry and proteomics to identify and characterize adult Aedes aegypti midgut peritrophic matrix heme-binding proteins that may serve as novel targets for molecular based vector and vector-borne disease control. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled, “Identification and characterization of adult Aedes aegypti midgut peritrophic matrix heme-binding proteins”. Shavonn’s initial interest in mosquitoes arose summer of 2011 while an exchange student in Cape Coast, Ghana, as part of the NIH MHIRT program.
