Students from Prairie View A&M University, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas Southern University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley are invited to apply for one of as many as 10 spaces available in the 2022 Diversity in Entomology program. Students majoring in fields relevant to entomology, e.g., biology, agricultural sciences, genetics, plant sciences, agronomy, etc., are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applications consist of a questionnaire and four items (in PDF format)
- most recent academic transcript;
- two letters of recommendation;
- an essay, and;
- a brief résumé.
The deadline for receipt of application items is March 20, 2022.
Academic transcripts should show a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0, and ≥ 24 completed credits.
The letters of recommendation should minimally address the applicant’s: (i) strengths and experiences, (ii) leadership qualities, (iii) level of motivation for careers in agriculture and food sciences or graduate study, and, (iv) perceived weaknesses, if any.
In the essay, applicants should address (i) their family’s background, (ii) any personal hardships, and the following questions: (iii) Why they wish to participate in the Diversity in Entomology program; (iv) what they hope to gain academically and personally from their participation; (v) whether they have been involved in extra-curricular activities relevant to the project and/or that benefit underrepresented communities; (vi) why they are qualified to participate in the project, and; (vii) what their deficiencies (if any) are for participation, and how these may be remedied.
