Scientific name: Myrmeleon sp.
Facts: Antlions have long clear wings with many veins and long delicate bodies. Some of them have dark markings or spots of color in the wings. They are usually over an inch long. Antlions may look similar to damselflies at first. However, antlions have short but conspicuous antennae that are enlarged at the end. Antlions are likely to be found at lights at night but can be found in the daytime usually at rest on foliage.
Immature antlions are called doodlebugs. They make pits in sandy areas and wait for ants and other insects to fall into the pits. Look for their pits under eaves of houses, under bridges, or in other sheltered areas. Adults are sometimes attracted to lights.
