Scientific name:
(Order: Scorpionida)

Facts: Scorpions are not insects but arachnids. However, they usually are included in entomology. They are important because of their painful sting. Texas species rarely cause problems when they sting except in very young children or persons hypersensitive to their venom.

The striped bark scorpion, Centruroides vittatus (Say), occurs throughout the state and is the only scorpion in the eastern half of Texas.
