Ph.D. Entomology
Our Ph.D. in Entomology provides extensive, research-based training to support careers in academia and the public and private sector. Students can tailor their program to enhance their expertise in a variety of different areas, including: arthropod ecology, biological control, integrated pest management, molecular biology, physiology, genetics and toxicology, plant resistance, systematics, and urban, medical, veterinary and forensic entomology — among others.
A $2.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation recently established the Center for Environmental Sustainability through Insect Farming, providing opportunities for graduate research and outreach.
Program Details
Students come into the field of entomology with diverse interests, science backgrounds and career goals. Students are able to tailor their education and research interests for this degree program with the help of their major advisor and advisory committees. After receiving hands-on training from some of the leading scientists and renowned entomologist across the nation, our students are well equipped to become prominent leaders in entomological research, application, education and regulatory affairs of private sector and government arenas, as well as international agencies and foreign countries.

Because space and resources for new graduate students are limited, it is vitally important that prospective students contact faculty early to establish communication, determine availability of funding and willingness to advise and mentor you through the degree program. Applicants will not be admitted to either degree program until there is formal commitment by a faculty member(s) to serve as your major advisor or co-advisor.
What Do I Need to Apply?
- Minimum GPR of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work, or 3.25 in 30 hours or more of graduate work.

*Ideally, two of the three recommendation letters should come from faculty members related to your area of interest. It is highly recommended that applicants ask each of their recommenders to upload a PDF letter of recommendation into this system.
International Students
Official TOEFL scores are required for international applicants. Official scores must be sent by ETS directly to Texas A&M University using the school code: 6003. Admissions Decisions
You will receive an admissions decision either in a letter from the Texas A&M University Office of Admissions or from the department.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
To be considered for additional funding opportunities outside of the department, students are encouraged to submit the financial aid application and a scholarship application, along with their graduate school application. This ensures students are reviewed for all the types of financial aid that you are eligible for. Remember: each student’s financial aid eligibility may vary. The types of financial aid you are offered is based on the data provided on your financial aid and/or scholarship application. If a student is an international or out-of-state resident and receives a competitive scholarship of at least $1,000, they may qualify for a non-resident tuition waiver.
