A&M Costa Rica Field Entomology in the Tropics
Are you interested in biodiversity? Are you seeking exciting research experience? Come learn about field entomology in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica through an intensive hands-on, field-based course. This course will provide unique opportunities for students to gain authentic research experience by being involved in insect behavioral experiments. Learn more about this opportunity.
Program Highlights

- Study entomology in the biodiverse and unique climates of Costa Rica
- Visit world-famous biological stations in the cloud forest and lowland forest to experience biodiversity
Program Requirements
- Must have completed at least 6 hours of biological sciences, or meet with faculty leaders for approval.
- Completion of any previous entomology course (ENTO 201, ENTO 208, or ENTO 301) is highly recommended.
- 2.0 cumulative GPA at time of application and until program start
- Good Academic and Conduct Standing with Texas A&M University
- Students must attend all pre-departure orientation meetings
All students are required to take a total of 3 credit hours in Fall 2022 to participate on this program. Students should meet with their academic advisors to ensure they meet eligibility requirements and that the courses are degree applicable.

A&M Caribbean Tropical & Field Biology Summer
Students conduct field research and complete class projects in Trinidad and Tobago. Individual and group research projects include, but are by no means restricted to, forensic entomology, host-parasite studies, basic ecology, and general biodiversity surveys. Students design projects, collect data, analyze results, and prepare a professional research article. Throughout the program students will be going on numerous hikes, some of which can be challenging, but the hikes allow the students to see and experience the islands’ diverse tropical flora and fauna. Students will also spend a good amount of time in and on the water conducting research and participating in program organized activities like snorkeling.
Highlights
- Gain hands-on experience designing and implementing an independent research project in a biodiverse area of the Caribbean.
- Experience the diverse Caribbean flora and fauna through rainforest hikes, mangrove cruises, and snorkeling on coral reefs.
- Witness female sea turtles nesting and/or hatchling sea turtles making their way across tropical beaches at night.
- Experience a diverse mix of Afro-Caribbean and Asian cultures, customs and cuisines.
Eligibility Requirements
- Open to all majors
- 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application and until program start
- Students must successfully complete WFSC/ENTO 485 with the faculty leaders during the Spring 2022 semester
- Good Academic and Conduct Standing with Texas A&M University

- WFSC/ENTO 300: Field Studies (3 cr.)
- WFSC/ENTO 450: Caribbean Conservation (2 cr.)
- WFSC/ENTO 451: Caribbean Research Seminar (1 cr.)
All students are also required to take WFSC/ENTO 485: Directed Studies for 1 cr. during the Spring 2022 in College Station before the program starts.

Lincoln, UK Study Abroad in Forensics
Students in the Lincoln Study Abroad program will be working with the University of Lincoln and have the opportunity to develop skills in forensic chemistry.
Students will be spending time exploring both the town of Lincoln and spend a few days in London, where we will take the Jack the Ripper tour, and explore historic areas throughout the city.

- Experience the history and culture of the United Kingdom
