A&M Costa Rica Field Entomology in the Tropics
Are you interested in biodiversity? Are you seeking exciting research experience? Come learn about field entomology in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica through an intensive hands-on, field-based course. This course will provide unique opportunities for students to gain authentic research experience by being involved in insect behavioral experiments. Learn more about this opportunity.
Program Highlights
- Gain hands-on, intensive research experience
- Study entomology in the biodiverse and unique climates of Costa Rica
- Visit world-famous biological stations in the cloud forest and lowland forest to experience biodiversity
Program Requirements
- Must have completed at least 6 hours of biological sciences or meet with faculty leaders for approval
- Completion of any previous entomology course (ENTO 201, ENTO 208, or ENTO 301) is highly recommended
- 2.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and until the program start
- Good Academic Standing and Good Conduct Standing with Texas A&M University
- Students must attend all pre-departure orientation meetings
Courses
All students are required to take a total of 3 credit hours in Summer to participate in this program. Students are required to enroll in ENTO 455 during Summer 2024, as this is a course taught during the program and is not a pre-requisite.
- ENTO 455: Field Entomology in the Tropics (3 cr.) – ENTO students can receive 1 cr towards their 2 cr research requirement.
Students should meet with their academic advisors to ensure they meet eligibility requirements and that the courses are degree-applicable.

A&M Lincoln, UK Forensic Science
This program is based at the University of Lincoln (UoL). UoL has one of the top-rated chemistry and forensics programs in the UK. You will have the chance to explore the university’s forensic program, learn aspects of forensic chemistry from local professors, and live in the historical town of Lincoln. You will participate in coursework from excellent forensic chemists in a modern lab, including hands-on time with equipment. Students will be able to compare and contrast forensic science expectations in the US and UK while learning more about the UK in general. Students will also get the chance to explore exciting London at the end of the program! Learn more about this opportunity.

- Open to all majors with CHEM lab experience
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and until program departure (or approval from instructor)

- Must have taken a chemistry lab before departure

A&M Toulouse, France – Agricultural and Food Products Processing
The study abroad program in Toulouse, France, offers an immersive and enriching experience for students interested in sustainable farming practices, historical agricultural traditions, and cultural exploration. A&M Florence, Italy – Insects in Human Society
Learn the history of how insects, events, and people in Florence and in Italy in general helped shape our current understanding of many different sciences. Plague, Galileo, silk production and trade, and the Medici’s influence on artists (who are considered by many to be scientists) have shaped human history and the food we eat. Students will be immersed in these topics as they explore the art, science, and food production in Italy. Students will visit multiple museums, and historical locations, and tour olive oil and wine-producing agricultural operations to explore these intertwined disciplines.
