Professional Summary
Pascal Ayelo graduated PhD in Entomology (chemical ecology) in 2021 from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and previously worked at the international centre of insect physiology and ecology (ICIPE) in Kenya. He received the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) In-Country/In-Region Scholarship award for his PhD studies. Since January 2023, Ayelo serves as a postdoctoral research associate in the department of Entomology at Texas A&M University where his research interests lie in the fields of insect chemical ecology and neurobiology, as well as plant physiology. His works involve the use of behavioral and chemical tools to: i- identify the bioactive compounds that are responsible for insect choices and interactions in multi-trophic systems (microbes-plants-herbivores-natural enemies), and ii- understand how insects process the bioactive compounds in the brain. The aim is to develop sustainable methods to contribute to the integrated pest management package. He also conducts research on the use of sensors to monitor plant health. To date, Ayelo has published 14 peer-reviewed articles and presented at several international conferences.
