Frequently Asked Questions about Registration
Why am I having problems registering for an ENTO Course?
There may be a few reasons you’re encountering obstacles, but here are some of the most common:
- To register for any 300 or 400 level class, you must currently be classified as a junior or senior. If you have completed less than 60 hours, you are classified as a sophomore. The classes that you are currently in process with are not included in determining your current classification. If you will have junior hours at the end of the Fall semester and would like to preregister for a 300 or 400 level class you will need to submit a force request.
- If you are in process with or do not have the required prerequisites for a class, you will not be able to pre-register for the class. If you will have the necessary prerequisites completed by the time the class starts, you need to submit a force request for the class. For information about the prerequisites for classes, please see the undergraduate course catalog.
- Most classes will have major and non-major sections. If you receive a major restriction error when you try to register for a class, you have chosen the incorrect section for that class. In the Class Schedule Search in Howdy, click on the class restrictions to see what majors are allowed to register for that section. You can only register for a section of the class that matches your current major. If the appropriate major section does not have any remaining seats open, do not email the professor, you need to submit a force request.
How do I submit transcripts for a prerequisite class I’m taking at another institution?
Students who have completed course work at another college or university and wish to have that credit evaluated for use on a degree plan at Texas A&M University, must provide an official transcript. Please see the Office of the Registrar for information on sending transcripts.
How do I enroll in an honors course?
If you would like to take the honors section of an class in the Department of Entomology please email your academic advisor.
What if I’m having trouble registering for a course in another department?
Make sure the class has open seats and check the prerequisites and restrictions on the class by either clicking on the CRN or the Restrictions/Details in the Class Schedule Listing in Howdy. If there are no open seats in the non-AGEC courses, you must contact the department offering the course to inquire about their force request policy. Advisors in the Advising Center 5 cannot force students into courses outside of the department.
What do I need to do to register for a class with a science lab?
Before you can register for a science lab class, you will need to complete the Lab Safety Agreement in Howdy. This can be found in the MyRecord tab.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for all courses are listed in Howdy and the Undergraduate Course Catalog. Please contact your advisor for more information on transfer credits. If you have not completed the prerequisite for a course, you will not be granted access to register in that course.
If you submit a force request for a course for which you do not have the prerequisite, your force request will not be processed. If you are taking a prerequisite at another university or institution, and are requesting a force into the successive course, your force request will not be processed unless you can show completion of the prerequisite course during the force request time frame. We will not consider force requests for prerequisite courses in-progress at institutions outside of Texas A&M. Once you have completed the prerequisite, and can provide proof of completion (transcript with the course’s final grade), you can request an override into your desired class by contacting your advisor. An override does not enroll you in a course, but it does give you the ability to register for the course if a seat is available.
Q-Drop Procedures
Complete information on Q-Drops can be found in Student Rule 01. Students may submit Q-drop request online in Howdy from the “My Dashboard” tab under the “My Requests” dropdown. The requests will be routed to the academic advisors for review and processing.
- Q-drop deadlines are posted on the University’s academic calendar
- Q’s are recorded on the student’s transcript; however, it does not affect the computation of the student’s GPR.
