Frequently Asked Questions about Registration
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for all courses are listed in Howdy and the Undergraduate Course Catalog. Please contact your advisor for more information on transfer credits. If you have not completed the prerequisite for a course, you will not be granted access to register in that course.
If you submit a force request for a course for which you do not have the prerequisite, your force request will not be processed. If you are taking a prerequisite at another university or institution, and are requesting a force into the successive course, your force request will not be processed unless you can show completion of the prerequisite course during the force request time frame. We will not consider force requests for prerequisite courses in-progress at institutions outside of Texas A&M. Once you have completed the prerequisite, and can provide proof of completion (transcript with the course’s final grade), you can request an override into your desired class by contacting your advisor. An override does not enroll you in a course, but it does give you the ability to register for the course if a seat is available.
Force Request Process
If there are no seats open in the class you want and you have the prerequisites to take the class, you will need to submit a force request. You must complete a separate request for each class. Submitting a force request does not guarantee you will be forced into your requested course(s).
Remember to include your UIN and your Texas A&M University email address in the force request. If you are in process with a prerequisite or will be taking the prerequisite over the summer break, be sure to include that information in the comment section of the force request. If you would like us to drop a class if we are able to add the desired class to your schedule, please include that information in the comment section of the force request.
After submitting your request, please wait patiently. When force request decisions are made, students will contacted via email advising as to whether or not the force request has been granted. In all cases, it is your responsibility to verify your student schedule to see whether or not you have been added to the course after your force has been approved. The priorities in which forces are allocated within each course/section are as follows:
- ENTO/FIVS students who are graduating in the upcoming semester;
- Students who are non-majors that are graduating in the upcoming semester;
- All other ENTO/FIVS students; and
- All other non-majors.
Each department has its own rules about forcing. For non-department courses, you must contact the department offering the course to inquire about their force request policy.
Q-Drop Procedures
Complete information on Q-Drops can be found in Student Rule 01. Students may submit Q-drop request online in Howdy from the “My Dashboard” tab under the “My Requests” dropdown. The requests will be routed to the academic advisors for review and processing.
- Q-drop deadlines are posted on the University’s academic calendar
- Q’s are recorded on the student’s transcript; however, it does not affect the computation of the student’s GPR.
